La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club

La Jolla, California Snuggled between the secluded La Jolla Cove and the craggy cliffs of Torrey Pines Reserve, this private Pacific beach hideaway became a prominent stop on the tennis-tournament circuit almost as soon as newspaperman F.W. Kellogg first strung its first nets back in 1935.
Today, the club still hosts the Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championships -- the fifth oldest tournament in the U.S. -- as well as three USTA national hard-court championships. The resort's Tennis Center features 12 hard courts, 8 with lights, and offers daily clinics, round robins and game-matching for all level of player.

Off the Court
In addition to tennis, the club features a private beach, a par-three golf course, massage services, and a full array of water sports, from guided kayak tours to snorkeling and Scuba diving. A two-room fitness center is equipped with barbells, mats and cardio and weight machines. Socializing, too, is key: Several times each week, the club hosts evening beach barbecues for members and guests.
Accommodations and Dining
With its Old Mexico-meets-high-end beach club ambience, the resort's 90 studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom suites feature calming colors, light-wood accents and wall-hung photos of past tennis greats. Of several on-site dining destinations, the highlight is the Marine Room; a favorite of guests and La Jolla locals alike, it serves inventive new American fare literally inches from the Pacific shoreline.
