Originally developed as a private club, with its winding sandy roads, moss-covered oak and palmetto trees, and no bridge to connect it to the mainland, this laid-back Low Country resort is truly an island escape.
The property comprises eight Har-Tru clay courts, six nestled among the towering pines and oaks at the Melrose Tennis Center, and two others at the ocean-view Bloody Point Clubhouse. Private lessons and clinics, taught by USPTA- and PTR-certified pros, include daily drills such as the popular "Magnificent Monday" program, featuring Prince equipment demos, prizes and complimentary ball-machine coupons. The resort also offers more intense courses, including a two-day Daufuskie Doubles School and Daufuskie Tennis Weekends, each incorporating video-taped analysis and small-group clinics.

Off the Court
In addition to tennis, resort amenities include a beach club, three swimming pools, two Atlantic-view golf courses, a fitness center, and a marina for boating and fishing. Breathe Spa offers an array of health and wellness options, including specialty treatments for men and couples. An on-property equestrian center organizes pasture, forest and beach rides, lessons, and themed carriage rides.
Accommodations and Dining
The resort's main lodging option is the 52 room, antebellum-style Melrose Inn, where rooms are appointed with Queen Anne-style post beds and oversized marble vanities. More secluded are the one- and two-bedroom Melrose Beach cottages, located either along the beach or nestled among the tall trees on the Avenue of the Oaks. Four on-site restaurants include The Beach Club, with a screened veranda overlooking Hilton Head's Harbour Town and Calibogue Sound, and the Stoddard Bistro, with floor-to-ceiling windows, an Asian Mediterranean-influenced menu, and an extensive selection of wines by the glass.

The Double Your Fun tennis package includes two nights' accommodations, breakfast and dinner for two, unlimited use of the tennis courts, one hour use of a tennis ball machine, and one can of tennis balls.

Kids' Stuff
Tennis is an all-ages affair at Daufuskie: As well as a five-day Junior Tennis Academy, the resort hosts a Junior Carnival program for kids ages 4-17, and a Tiny Tots clinic for kids ages 4-7.
Getting There
The nearest airport is Savannah/Hilton Head International (SAV), approximately 45 miles away. It is also possible to fly directly to Hilton Head Island Airport (HHH), via commuter service from Charlotte, NC. The island itself is accessible only by ferry from the resort's Embarkation Center on Hilton Head Island.
