    Justin Gimelstob sexist rant -

This so called tennis player who can hardly produce anything in the court has the audacity to talk down on women's players. What a pig - sexist chauvanist.

He's virtually unknown in the tennis world. A pathetic commentator at that. I wonder why this man is such a presence in tennis.

Please don't give this pathetic excuse for a tennis player a job tennis channel.

Believe it or not, he's always been that way.  A trouble maker when playing college tennis too.

I agree about him not being one of the brightest stars in tennis.  In fact the only slam he's ever one was mixed doubles at Wimbledon with no other than Serena Williams.  I'll bet she played and covered him a whole bunch.  I've seen that guy loss in less than an hour.  LOL

    Thanks for the smile today.

the major point of this post is to make clear the message that the Tennis Channel relays to the public as to their operations.  First, by hiring unqualified people they are showing the biggest reflection of themselves.  You know that old saying "tell me who your with, and I'll tell you who you are" this is the perfect example.  Maybe the executives who think they run a company pretty good aren't as clever as they think they are.  If they hired him in the first place the apple probably doesn't fall far from the tree.  Secondly, Now they send the best message of all by saying your mistakes are justified if you "DONATE MONEY".  I think it's a good example to the people that sh*t everythings ok as long as you pay the proper people.  Sure make derrogatory comments, it doesn't matter as long as you have enough cash to fork it over.  Lastly, if you notice how much more men's coverage they provide then women's.  Certainly the opinions are not just reflected by Gimelstob but by the entire Tennis Channel Network.  If tennis is to start gaining respect they must take a stand when people act in this manner.

OK people. Take a deep breath. Now exhale. Feel better? I hope so. Justin's comments were obviously schtick for this radio broadcast. How many times have we heard these types of rants? I don't know...hundreds of times. Maybe more? You act like this is the first time your virgin ears have ever picked up on this type of rhetoric. Howard Stern, Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Jim Cramer, Charles Barkley, John McEnroe. Heck, even Johnny Miller, the golf analyst. They all rant and rave every time they are on their respective programs. Ever wonder why they are hired and have their contracts renewed? Because they are good at what they do and they tell it like it is (like it or not). Justin is just another in a long line of funny, honest, expert (I’ve heard some of you criticize him for never winning…how many of you would give your left arm to play professional sports for 13 years?) broadcasters to come along. Let’s face it, Tennis is not the #1 American sport. Not by a long shot. The Tennis Channel is trying to broaden the sport by bringing in expert, opinionated, humorous, controversial broadcasters to the air. This is what sells in television these days. It gets people talking and then hopefully brings more to the network coverage. I for one would rather listen to Justin’s or Johnny Mac’s comments than Drysdale (no offense, Cliff) or whoever else is out there calling it straight down the middle. If you have listened to Justin over the years you know what you are going to get. He pulls no punches. He obviously got carried away and made some strong comments. I have to believe he didn’t mean anything by them and also accept his apology. I hope that you guys on this board can do the same. I always tell people, give Justin a chance, he’ll grow on you.

Tennis is not # 1 American sport, but tennis is # 1 sport for me and my family.

If it is not #1 for you, then you should not take a part in this discussion. Go to basketball or football forum.

And as far as giving Justin a chance I am all for it. Justin is waisting time with tennis channel. He can get more attractive offers by joining Howard Stern. After that he can have a future in Hollywood. He has perfect face to be a star in movies, especially one brand would be fitting him so well. He is just waisting his talent with tennis channel. Howard Stern's fans love him already.

Justin please, go to Sirius, make a millions, you will be happy there, you are natural talent for those people. They will love you, we will shut up.

I didn't hear what JG said but I must say I am concerned about the push for "equality" from the women's game.  I am a serious tennis fan and women's tennis, by and large, simply does not bring in the viewership that men's tennis does.  Let the market decide.  Why should women get equal prize money?  Only if they bring in the same amount of fan/sponsorship dollars.  The quality of tennis they produce is certainly far below the men.  Although there are some quality, exciting women's tennis matches, as a general rule they are not as compelling as the men's.  In what other sport would eqal prize money, air time, etc. be suggested, much less given, to the women's side?

You start with women and were do you end?

What about Orientals, Hispanics,Indians, Muslims, Christian, Jews, Whites,Blacks, Yellow, Men, Women, Americans, Russians.............?

Lets have different amount of price money for everybody depends how much advertising they generate. How much do you think you are worth?

What is a fairer way to determine prize money?  I don't always (or even usually) like the outcome, but relying on a free market response is the most democratic way that I know of to allocate a necessarily finite pool of prize money, advertising dollars, etc.  At the end of the day, sport is just mass entertainment anyway.

    Hi FSB

I see you are an expert.

Could you please tell me how much money should be paid to my son if he wins US Open.

    We are Eskimos.

Thank you, I am an expert.  Let me see, I would say that, after allowing for the extreme odds against an Eskimo ever accessing the training and year-round playing time necessary to compete at more than the "club" level, along with the improbability of an Eskimo being able to successfully make the transition from ice to hard courts, the smount of money that should, in all fairness, be paid to your son would be appreciably more than the fair market value of the Williams sisters' and Maria Sharapova's Florida compounds combined.  Don't you think?
