Already a sport that has lost great interest since the 1970's, tennis is constantly diminishing any value it has left when the channel dedicated to tennis, doesn't even hire broadcasters with any professional experience or at the very least "professionalism." Justin Gimelstob has absolutely no place being a broadcaster on the Tennis Channel just because he had a sub par professional career. Do you want to hear the insight on an NFL game from the guy who sat the bench on the Arizona Cardinals? If you look at all the other credible networks, they hire broadcasters who have substantial professional experience in the field, or by themselves were legends at what they did. Not only are his remarks offensive, but they have an element of high school. You know those guys who made fun of you because of their insecurities and ended up the janitor at McDonald's.
Anyways the major point of this post is to make clear the message that the Tennis Channel relays to the public as to their operations. First, by hiring unqualified people they are showing the biggest reflection of themselves. You know that old saying "tell me who your with, and I'll tell you who you are" this is the perfect example. Maybe the executives who think they run a company pretty good aren't as clever as they think they are. If they hired him in the first place the apple probably doesn't fall far from the tree. Secondly, Now they send the best message of all by saying your mistakes are justified if you "DONATE MONEY". I think it's a good example to the people that sh*t everythings ok as long as you pay the proper people. Sure make derrogatory comments, it doesn't matter as long as you have enough cash to fork it over. Lastly, if you notice how much more men's coverage they provide then women's. Certainly the opinions are not just reflected by Gimelstob but by the entire Tennis Channel Network. If tennis is to start gaining respect they must take a stand when people act in this manner.
AMEN!!!
Just because a person has played tennis does not make that person a good commentator. They should find qualified people who can commentate and hire them. As I said before, Tennis Channel is doing stupid things. Please hire qulified people to commentate.
The presence of Justin Gimmelstob on the Tennis Channel is a discredit to all your viewers. Now that we know what he really thinks, as stated on a radio interview for all to hear, it is very difficult to watch him on the air, especially when he is interacting with women commentators. Tennis Channel should fire Gimmelstob. The excuse that he did not make those comments on your channel or station is not good enough.
