I totally agree with you. I have been muting all the matches that Martina is commenting on. She talks non stop and during every point! I can barely tolerate Mary Carillo but think Martina N is the most annoying commentator the tennis channel has ever had! Please don't have her at Wimbledon! Is there a poll or petition i can sign????
I'm with you, I will definitely sign the petition! No more Martina!!!
The tennis world is probably unanimous on this matter. Navratilova continues to berate wonderful tennis players when things are going bad for that person. It's very irritating listening to her putting down individuals that are really trying hard to win matches in very difficult circumstances. Tennis Channel needs to replace her.
Well, I respecfully disagree. Maybe it's because I'm still trying to perfect my game, but I find her commentary helpful to my own game. Someone moving into the court, foot position, shoulders, where they catch the ball. Alot of little nuances that someone of the 3.5-4.0 level actually finds beneficial to listen to. I don't hear her attacking players as much as critiquing their play.
Thank God she's not Mary Carillo. Martina, next to Jonny Mac, offers great commentaries because she speaks from a players' perspective. Actually from a multiple Grand Slam winning player's perspective. Most people don't understand the nuances playing on the pro-tour who criticize Martina should listen and take in her advice.
In opinion Mary Carillo doesn't offer anything extra that any other generic sports commentator could provide. I also can't stand the way she speaks as if her lower jaw is filled with water.
One thing which will always stand out in my mind are Mary Carillo's comments to Monica Seles after she got stabbed by a German fanatic. Mary told her to "stop her crying and get back on the court." What freggin insensitive wanker! Being a tennis coach and professional doubles player, I would expect Mary to understand the mental aspects of the game. I've never heard Mary apologize.
Mary Carillo is Carillo. And I love her. Sometimes I watch tv only if she is on! She is funny. cool headed, witty, intelligent, and major eye candy.
Absolutely.....well written!!! You really get an insight on the break down of the game in almost pixel-like accuracy. Its amazing how Martina will make a comment and then they will show a slomo of the action that she commented on... and how accurate she is in just a single second watching of a live action and can break down the movements in perfect physical action. Or...she will find a fault in a serve or return and she will peg the next movement just by singling out an improper foot placement or ball placement... this is amazing and so insightful. Your game my friend will undoubtedly improve....nice to read your comments....getting sick of yodel head negativity.
Wow.... I can't believe how wrong you are.... well, to you she may not be Mary Carillo, but to me she is much more, her perfection of the game and analysis of the players is always "right on". Somehow she knows what the players are thinking and can explain to the audience why they missed the shot, faulted on the serve or just plain old lost the match. This my friend, is why "we" watch and she has won so many Grand Slams. My vote is more Martina, less Johnny Mac!
Wow, more Martina and less no Johnny Mac.
Sorry I changed your great line but I had to because I happen to not be a JMac fan in the least. I think he's a pig who knows nothing about playing REAL tennis. Even when he was playing he was stupid. Now he has elevated to Moron.
I agree with you, Navratilova including some commentators on espn need to shut their mouthes when players are playing. I noticed that Navratilova and others want to be coaches and better players then those in motion and on the courts trying their best possible. My suggestion to all of You all knowing commentator coaches, " don't rattle with your lips, go out there unto the court and show us how much better you can perform", OK. Otherwise try to be at least fifty percent the proffessionals you supposed to be. Thank You
Yes, Martina was a good tennis player in "her time", however she's not a mind reader and much less is it her job to do coaching instead of simply commenting. She also voiced some changes to existing rules regarding coaching and doing away with "net calls". Well, instead of rattling her mouth she should join the "Rules Committee" and make them change the rules. Good luck Martina, but I think You're beeing rather a bit cranky.
Also throw in Pam Shriver, all of these so called commentators, constantly commentate while points are in play. They are the worst. They are so busy talking about other things that do not pertain to the match that they forget their purpose about actually telling you about the match at hand. It is like a chat session when they are on. I have e mailed ESPN for years to no avail. I did not buy my remote to keep it on mute but when they are on I have to.TALK BEFORE AND AFTER POINTS, NOT WHILE THE POINT IS IN PLAY.
Martina never shuts up, they are so disgusting, I am glad you brought up this comment but the networks will do nothing about it, they could care less about what us viewers want. Also, why have 4 or 5 commentators calling a match between 2 players, the Networks must have money to burn.
I agree Martina is entirely to critical and needs to just be quite some times. Is it just me or does she look like John Denver's big brother
