DISSECTING THE 2008 WIMBLEDON DRAW - WOMEN
We've had three world #1's in the last month ... and one of them no longer is on the tour. So that makes for a very compelling Wimbledon. Lot's of women have a chance. But only one is going to win. Who's it gonna be? I hold the answers. I guarantee it.
TOP QUARTER:
Winner: Ana Ivanovic
She's your world #1 ... and she's disciplined and tough. She also has the biggest serve in the game. I like Ana to make it through. Pretty soft quarter with Patty Schnyder and Anna Chakvetadze the only real big names.
SECOND QUARTER:
Winner: Serena Williams
Svetlana Kuznetsova is the top seed in this quarter, but she's never had consistent results at Wimbledon. Serena is a two time winner, and has the huge serve and big shots that work well on grass. Also watch out for last years finalist Marion Bartoli and Agnieska Radwanska.
THIRD QUARTER
Winner: Maria Sharapova
Maria has a big serve and her flat groundstrokes work well on grass. She's had great, consistent results on grass and will be dangerous. Other players to watch for are French Open finalist Dinara Safina and Lindsay Davenport. If Davenport is healthy, she could go far.
FOURTH QUARTER:
Winner: Venus Williams
Venus is the defending champ, and has won 4 times at Wimbledon. And she's done it with her huge serve. She's healthy, and loves playing here. I think she gets through her fairly soft draw. Jelena Jankovic and Vera Zvonareva are also threats, but Venus should coast.
SEMIFINALS: Ivanovic vs. Serena
Great match-up ... I like Ivanovic because she's fit and hungry.
SEMIFINALS: Maria and Venus
I think Venus makes it through ... she just loves this surface.
FINALS: Ana vs. Venus
I think Venus wins it again ... beating Ana in straight sets to take the title.
